<p>Please bear in mind that I am not a dietician, or a physician, and my opinions are those of a Yoga teacher and life-long student of Ayurveda. Always consult your family physician before changing your diet.</p>
<p>It may be generally agreed that eating wisely and weight loss do not often agree. Just look back that the parade of “fad diets” that didn’t seem to work over the long term and, in retrospect, were not wise from the onset.</p>
<p>This article will be a “union” of ideas from Ayurvedic principles, modern fitness concepts, and overall strategies for better health.</p>
<p>It goes without saying that a vegetarian diet is healthy. Only a decade ago, there were many reservations, among local physicians in New England, in regard to this concept. How rapidly knowledge, insight, and opinions change.</p>
<p>Marie, my wife, exposed me to the vegetarian diet. Before that, I ate what is now called the “Mediterranean Diet.” The diet I eat, to this day, is a combination of the two. The combination of these two, “classic” diets, are easy for me to live with and it is not an effort, at all, for me.</p>
<p>That is the biggest hurdle for most people. Many of us take on a radical dieting change that we cannot live with. Most of us can afford to make a few small changes at a time, instead of changing everything at once &#8211; unless you are dieting under the guidance of your doctor or dietician.</p>
<p>Therefore, I propose a few small changes to your eating habits that will make sense. You do not have to change them all at one time.</p>
<p>Sit down and focus on eating your meal.</p>
<p>Avoid television, reading, heated conversations, etc.</p>
<p>Thoroughly chew your food at a slow pace and do not put more food in your mouth until you have swallowed the previous bite.</p>
<p>Be aware of how hungry you are before your meal.</p>
<p>Try to avoid too much time between meals, as this leads to over consumption and your stomach should never be more than three quarters full, after a meal.</p>
<p>Exercise tip: Some of you practice Yoga and understand the many benefits of Sun Salutations, but have you ever tried weight resistance?</p>
<p>Strength training increases energy expenditure during a weight resistance training session. The high intensity of strength training indicates a high utilization of carbohydrates during a training session.</p>
<p>During the post-exercise recovery period, energy expenditure is elevated for a period ranging from two to fifteen hours (1). The increased energy demands are obtained by burning more calories, and a good portion of the calories are coming from fat stores.</p>
<p>Even if you work every body part just once a week, to lose weight before wedding, this method of cross training will effectively burn calories. When you combine this with any aerobic activity, you have a powerful combination. Rowing and bicycling are good substitute forms of resistance too.</p>
<p>Strategies for results: Get help from a qualified Personal Trainer, Dietician, or a Life Coach. You could do it all yourself, but how much time do you have to “spin your wheels.” without any progress? These services exist for those who don’t want to waste time and want solutions now.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Why  in heavens would  anybody  want to stay in a <a href='http://www.uk-bed-breakfast.info/b-and-b/suffolk/' target='_blank'>Bed Breakfast Suffolk</a> when you could stay in a hotel?  Everyone knows that the typical UK Bed and Breakfast serves up polyester  sheets, pancake-thin soap and faded fake-posies.  Don’t they?  </p>
<p>The  interior invariably involves dusty China busts of long-dead members of the Royal family, sickly potpourri, so many tasselled cushions that you’d need a fork lift before contemplating sitting down, teddy-bears on every surface and walls crowded with amateurish paintings and family photographs.  In short, a minimalist&#8217;s nightmare and a perfect summation of the typical British Bed and Breakfast.  Right?</p>
<p>Well, no.  The image most people hold in their heads of a UK Bed and Breakfast is quickly becoming an aged stereotype.  No longer should one expect (or accept)  naff  interiors or a second-rate service in a Bed and Breakfast.  In fact, Bed and Breakfasts are becoming THE places in which to stay, whether you are taking a mini-break or even an extended holiday.  </p>
<p> No longer the domain of five-star hotels, these days you should not be surprised if your Bed and Breakfast serves up pancakes and fresh-roasted Cuban coffee for breakfast, provides you with fluffy, pristine white bath towels, lays out glossy magazines by the bed and delectable chocolates on your pillow.  Nor should you be  flabbergasted to hear that good taste and a desire to run your own <a href='http://www.uk-bed-breakfast.info/b-and-b/greater-london/' target='_blank'>Bed Breakfast London</a> is not mutually exclusive.   </p>
<p>In the UK, this insidious change has been taking place over the last decade.  Now, for prices as low as £35 and £45 per person, it is possible to get the same level of luxury as a five-star hotel, without the huge expenses. </p>
<p>What you may lack in  atmospheric lighting and 110 inch  plasma screens, you gain in cosiness.  Service tends to be more personable – there is a sense that individual service and hospitality is prized over the often slick, pseudo-glamorous and insincere personas sported by many hotel staff. </p>
<p>And no prizes for guessing in which place you are more likely to be greeted by a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake…  </p>
<p>Sure, there are drawbacks.  It’s simply not possible for most Bed and Breakfasts to house spas, gyms, golf courses, broadband, bars and restaurants.  But, depending on the location, these should be available to you in the vicinity .  If you value your space or privacy then perhaps you’d be better off in a hotel too.  Also lacking – unless you have an extremely amiable host! – will be Michelin-starred chefs and 24 hour room service.  </p>
<p>So when debating between staying in a hotel or Bed and Breakfast remember that Bed and Breakfasts – at least in the UK – are not what they used to be.  Letting the any memories you harbour of the stereotypical shabby and dusty Bed and Breakfasts sway your decision would now be madness.  Go on,  look into it .   You may just surprise yourself ! </p>

<p>For those who struggle in the battle of weight loss,I have asked many people who are or has been on a diet and the reasons why they choose to lose weight are:</p>
<p><b>Appearance</b><br />
Many people have self-esteem issues when it comes to their weight. For some men, their overweight problems may not attract a person to him. For some women, it is the same. Women are more conscience of their appearance. They want to be more attractive to the opposite sex. Both sex, may feel that if weight is loss, a new or existing relationship would strengthen.</p>
<p><b>Break The Stereotype</b><br />
There are stereotypes that are forced upon people who are overweight. Some people that are overweight, is looked at as if they are unhappy, tired, or lazy. I have heard some state, &#8220;I&#8217;d hate to be that person.&#8221; Many reasons why a person chooses to lose weight, is to break this stereotype. An overweight person has the self-esteem to endure the weight loss process. Therefore, losing weight makes the individual feel much better physically and mentally.</p>
<p><b>Health Reasons</b> <br />
Many people want to lose weight in order to physically feel better. A person may be 5 pounds overweight. Or a person may be 20 pounds overweight. The main goal here, is to shed off that excess weight. There are millions of people in America who are ill. By losing weight, this may deter heart disease, high blood pressure, cholesterol levels, strokes, and diabetes. The chance to diet, eat healthy, and lose weight is a positive option.</p>
<p><b>Better Employment</b><br />
It seems as if our appearance, also helps to determine our employment status. People may want to lose weight before that great interview. To look your best at an interview, creates a positive first impression. When you walk in the room for the interview, you are seen to have confidence and a glow about yourself. When interviewed, the employer may judge by looks. The notion of being overweight, may tie into the employee being possibly lazy and a unhappy worker. Therefore, this is another good reason why people want to lose weight.</p>
<p><b>Clothing</b><br />
Many people tend to have a closet or closets full of garments. Some may even have clothes which was kept from 10 to 15 years ago. Those clothes may have shown a special quality, feature, or made the person feel good about themselves. So the choice to lose weight, is undoubtedly a decision one makes. They may want to once again, fit into the clothing and feel the youth they had 10 to 20 years ago. We notice this happens around the time of our class reunion.</p>
<p><b>Savings On New Clothes</b><br />
Another reason to lose weight, may be the savings of buying new clothes. A lot of people may buy a suit or dress that fits very nice. A year later, that same suit or dress may be too small. To buy clothing every year, will add up, which means money is being spent. For this reason, people become very motivated to lose weight.</p>
<p><b>Save Money on Travel</b><br />
Nowadays, people who are overweight or so called obese, are punished. On some airlines, a person who is overweight and cannot fit in the planes&#8217; single chair, can possibly be charged a double fee. An individual may seem fit to lose weight in order to save him or herself money.</p>
<p>There are many reasons why people want to lose weight. Looking better and feeling good about themselves is terrific. Having a plan and setting a routine is the first big step in losing weight. Yet, there are a lot reasons why people fail the battle of weight loss.</p>

<p>Think about it. Olympic swimmer, Mark Phelps, will be remembered forever.  The other swimmers who finished second, the &#8220;losers&#8221;, have already been forgotten.</p>
<p>No matter the time of year, some sports playoffs are beginning somewhere.  The &#8220;winners&#8221; get to stay and play. &#8220;Losers&#8221; get to go home and re-live their mistakes.</p>
<p>When Winter approaches here in South Carolina, the competition for the few remaining seeds and berries in our bird feeders gets serious.  The &#8220;winners&#8221; spend their days, and nights, with full bellies.  The &#8220;losers&#8221; make do with whatever scraps fall to the ground. (Always a less than satisfying diet)</p>
<p>Losing is NOTautomatically a good thing. Mind and body very actively resist loss&#8230;in any form.</p>
<p>DIETING &#8220;losers&#8221;, when visiting a smorgasbord buffet, will see all the things that they must avoid; then pull out their calorie counting books and calculators to determine what, if anything, is &#8220;allowed&#8221; by their usually less than two week old &#8220;new, MIRACLE DIET&#8217;s&#8221; restrictions.  They walk away feeling miserably deprived and hungry.</p>
<p>A couple of weeks of feeling deprived is about all the mind and body will allow.  Enter: The binge stage.  Miracle DIET is out the window. Within a few days, any weight &#8220;lost&#8221; will be regained&#8211;probably with a couple extra &#8220;insurance pounds&#8221;. That&#8217;s why they are called &#8220;YO-YO DIETS&#8221;.</p>
<p>Winning dieters approach the same bountiful table and, if they are at all hungry, know that the diet they have been on since birth &#8220;allows&#8221;&#8211;actually encourages,  &#8220;a little of this&#8230;and a little of that&#8221;. Hunger satisfied, they move on to some other pleasantness, feeling fully satisfied.</p>
<p>The intermittent CAPITALIZATION in this writing is intentional.</p>
<p>DIET refers to some artificially imposed &#8220;system for weight loss&#8221;. The various DIETS are for &#8220;losers&#8221;.</p>
<p>A diet, used in it&#8217;s original meaning, is simply &#8220;the sum total of what we eat&#8221;. By making a few, pleasant adjustments to a diet and lifestyle, it&#8217;s actually pretty easy to achieve (TO WIN) whatever weight goal is set&#8211;even if that goal is to gain weight.</p>
<p>Gaining weight is simply not a problem for most of the world&#8217;s population&#8211;over half of whom are currently overweight.  So you see, we are not alone. Most of the people in the world could benefit from making those few, pleasant adjustments to their current diet and lifestyle.</p>
<p>Why and how do I keep emphasizing &#8220;few&#8221; and &#8220;pleasant&#8221; &#8220;adjustments&#8221;?</p>
<p>Easy. Gayle and I have been making those adjustments for nearly a month now; and they keep getting easier. You see, we are among the half of the world&#8217;s population who will never be striving to GAIN weight.</p>
<p>Our web site is all the evidence we need. We recently posted pictures and statistics; and will continue to do so the first of each month. Talk about a humbling experience!</p>
<p>Gayle is only overweight; but I&#8217;ve been in the &#8220;morbidly obese&#8221; category for a number of years. Between the two of us, there&#8217;s an extra 125 pounds.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What are &#8220;super foods&#8221;&#8230;and why should I care? You might as well ask a similar question: &#8220;What is clean air&#8230;and why do I need it?&#8221; The answers to both questions are the same.</p>
<p>Most often referred to as &#8220;quality of life&#8221;; and if by taking a few simple steps you could dramatically improve that quality, wouldn&#8217;t it be kind of silly to ignore those very steps?</p>
<p>If you live in an area that  announces the daily &#8220;air quality index&#8221; and frequently advises &#8220;staying indoors&#8212;in a &#8216;hepa filtered environment&#8217;&#8221; your options there may already be limited. You can uproot your family and &#8220;head for the hills&#8221; or a more rural environment; or, you can accept the prospect of ongoing respiratory ills.</p>
<p>If breathing is not your problem, but diet is, the answers there may be a simple as a trip to the local market. (With Google&#8217;s help, of course) Do a quick search for &#8220;super foods&#8221;.</p>
<p>Do several searches as I did, and you will eventually end up with the &#8220;basic lists of 14&#8243; plus the one that includes CHOCOLATE&#8211;dark chocolate, but chocolate none-the-less.</p>
<p>Modern dietary research recommends 14 different, nutrient-dense foods, that very strongly promote good overall health.  Coined “superfoods,” they tend to be lower in calories, higher in levels of vitamins and minerals, and to contain many disease-fighting antioxidants.</p>
<p>A diet built primarily, though not necessarily exclusively, around these super foods virtually guarantees a rapid improvement in your quality of life&#8230;improved digestion, higher energy levels, lowered blood pressure, the list goes on; but you get the idea.</p>
<p>And just what are these &#8220;mysterious, exotic&#8221; super foods, you ask?</p>
<p>
(1)  Beans&#8212;Practically any legume fits the bill.</p>
<p>(2)  Berries&#8212;All are good; blueberries are best.</p>
<p>(3)  Broccoli&#8212;No surprise here.</p>
<p>(4)  Green Tea&#8212;Would Oprah lie to you?</p>
<p>(5)  Nuts&#8212;Walnuts leading the list.</p>
<p>(6)  Oranges&#8212;And almost all citrus fruits.</p>
<p>(7)  Pumpkin&#8212;Pie anyone?</p>
<p>(8)  Salmon&#8212;The wilder the better. Farms are for cows.</p>
<p>(9)  Soy&#8212;May need to re-think this one; but I may be the only &#8220;tofu-phobe&#8221; on the planet.</p>
<p>(10) Spinach&#8212;Mom and Popeye were right all along.</p>
<p>(11) Tomatoes&#8212;You say tomahto&#8230;I say tomato.</p>
<p>(12) Turkey&#8212;It&#8217;s not just for Thanksgiving any more.</p>
<p>(13) Whole grains and oats&#8212;The more grains the better.</p>
<p>(14) Yogurt&#8212;An acquired taste. Personally, I&#8217;m still acquiring.</p>
<p>(15) CHOCOLATE&#8212;Dark, but still CHOCOLATE! </p>
<p>Did I mention CHOCOLATE?</p>
<p>And just what improvements to my quality of life can I expect from such &#8220;super foods&#8221;?<br />
They warrant a list of their own:</p>
<p>(A) Lowered blood pressure.</p>
<p>(B) Diabetes&#8212;Reversed and/or controlled</p>
<p>(C) Alzheimer&#8217;s&#8212;Reduced or eliminated.</p>

<p>(E) Mood Swings&#8212;A thing of the past.</p>
<p>(F) Fatigue&#8212;Delayed till bedtime</p>
<p>(G) Bone and muscles&#8212;Improved tone and function</p>
